Hi everyone and a Happy New Year to you all. I hope Santa was good to you and you had a great festive season.
As we are now in our winter season I decided to make a couple of easy crocheted hats for friends little girls as part of their Christmas box. What style to go for was the hardest decision with so many patterns in cyber land. I eventually decided on this one which has been shared by the lovely Betsy on her blog The Dainty Daisy. Thank you so much Betsy, I love your style.
The pattern can also be found on the Ravelry site together with instructions on you tube-by Betsy for the hardest part of the the pattern here.
Now I must point out I only started crocheting last year and up to this point I had only ventured on very simple items like dishcloths, scarves and a couple of flowers. I did need a couple attempts at the initial round stitching to get an idea of how loose to stitch it and also how to keep count of my increasing circle but after that I was away and found it a joy to make.
This hat was made for my friends baby Poppy, hence the poppy instead of the regular flower. You could do any flower you like to embellish the hat. As I was using red for the poppy I kept to a neutral colour for the hat but one that wouldn't show the dirty as much as white or a cream. In my experience babies like to take their hats of and drop them whilst out in their buggies!
Anyway here is my version of Betsy's pattern.
For my hat I used pure Merino double knit wool in red and biscuit shades. I also added the scalloped edging at the end just to incorporate the red.
I'd like to finish today by wishing you all the very best for 2014, may it be a happy, healthy and crafty year for you all.
Hugs,
Erika.
