Afternoon all and I hope you are enjoying our 12 days of Christmas, lots of great ideas to add in the run up to the festive season.
Today I wanted to share with you a tradition that I have in my home. Every year I like to get a new Christmas tree decoration and also make one. This year I have decided to go a little further and have a little birdie theme. Birds have been popular lately in the crafting world so keeping with the theme....let me begin....
A couple of years ago I got a couple of lovely felt kits from a good crafty friend of mine who knows I like to make new tree decorations. I made one set straight away that year but this little beauty has been waiting in the sidelines for too long now.
The kit is from Paper and String and is very simple to follow. I decided to use blanket stitch instead of straight stitch which does take slightly longer to do but I think it is worth it.
The finished penguin. Isn't he cute?
Now as I was stitching him I got to thinking......wouldn't he make a lovely robin with a little altering?
A red belly and change of colour and we have a festive robin.
Now can it be an owl.....well, another tweek of the pattern and.....
Guess that means I have three new decorations for the tree this year! All cute and all can be stitched in a few hours whilst sat keeping warm by the fire. I actually think they'd also make a nice stocking filler especially to those who love all things feathered.
Make your own felt decorations with a simple pattern and a few odds and ends of felt and truely personalise your Christmas tree.
Enjoy the festive season, hugs Erika. x
Love your birds and a really good idea to tweak patterns x
