Did you know the original ruby slippers weren't ruby at all, but silver? They only became red for the purpose of the film, to take advantage of the glorious new Technicolour film process.
My own ruby slippers (which, unlike the originals, have never had an estimated auction value of 2 million dollars) were previously a tan leather pair of tired MaryJanes.
I used a pot, a paintbrush, pva glue and 3 little pots of red microfine glitter,
to give them three coats altogether, drying thoroughly in between, (only make up enough goop for one coat at a time),
and now they are the Dorothy slippers I always dreamed of:
See me tap my heels together...
Oh my!
