Just over 15 months ago the ladies of my village decided to start a book club and I was quite surprised at how easy we got organised and had our first book to read.
When I decided to write this post I did some google research on starting a book club and was scared by the strict formality of it all.
Now some people may like the formality and seriousness but with our lives so presurised already we decided to make ours casual :)
We meet once a month at someones house, and there is no pressure on anyone to host. The photo above was a meet at someones house that is too small to accomodate us, so we sat out in the garden! Beautiful setting for a summer evening.
There are a few snacks, usually crisps and bread sticks and we each take along a bottle of wine or juice to help the hostess.
There are all manner of reading tastes so we do have a varied book list which takes us out of our comfort zones and exposes us to authors and genres we may not have tried before. We are fortunate to have a member who kindly collects our books from the library for us. And as we get the books from a library our book list order is liably to change due to availability.
The best bit of our group is that there is NO pressure to finish the book, and if you're not up to going to the meet, it's okay.
I love being part of the community and we're friends and foremost first!
If you love reading and have a group of friends keen for a once monthly meet up and you enjoy reading this may be the activity for you.
Happy reading and thanks for coming by.

It's a lovely idea, I wish I lived in your village and could join in.

This is great, I'd love more information on how to set it up, and how it all works in terms of reading together if you could please?

I would always be worried I didn't get the book finished in time! Mind you once I start if it is good I keep going till I'm done, I drive the family mad. A good social event.
