Have you heard of the latest knitting and crochet thing to hit the streets? Yarn bombing (or yarn-storming) has fascinated me and totally captured my imagination. I saw an image of the bus covered in crochet and it was love at first sight. [Click on the images below for links] ...
Google has many, many images to see (I got lost on there for hours). If you're interested, according to Wikipedia, Yarn bombing (or yarn-storming) is "...about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places. It has since developed with groups graffiti knitting and crocheting worldwide, each with their own agendas and public graffiti knitting projects being run." I think it looks like loads of fun. Sometimes folks creep about and put knitting or crochet pieces up at night-time! Anyway, imagine my excitement when I heard about something going on LOCAL TO ME!! I don't know about you, but it seems like if I find something I'm interested in and it's always a million miles away like New York or somewhere. Well, this was me last Saturday afternoon (wearing pink)...
In a gazeebo with loads of other lovely folks...
The knitting needles, crochet hooks and yarn were provided. Some folks learned to crochet and I had the privelege to help with that too. Saint Peter's gardens in Wolverhampton (next to the Art Gallery) is where we met, which is also the place the Yarn bombing will be displayed. A brilliant crafty group called Stitches and Hos (their logo below) are involved. They meet at the Hare and Hounds pub, Kings Heath, Birmingham once a month.
Sadly, I haven't been to a meeting as it's a bit far on a week night, but Sara and Helen were there on Saturday. They gave the Bullring bull a jumper! Anyway, the plan is to cover loads of benches and stone balls in knitting and crochet and have it displayed in April.
Also, I was so pleased to meet a lovely fellow crafter and blogger called Helen from It's All Fiddlefart. She has two famous monkeys that she blogs about too. It was such fun to pose the monkeys and take photos!
It was really great to meet Helen in person.
A lovely afternoon in the sunshine.
Art Yarn and Wolverhampton Art Gallery are behind the 'Park Your Yarn' fun (and I'm so happy!)
Finally, there's a fab website (and book) called Yarnbombing that will provide more chat and eye candy of the yarn variety (and I just want to apologise to those of you who don't love knitting and crochet and yarn-goodness for all the gushing I've done on this post!!)
For anyone who wants to get their hands on a cute little crochet freebie of their own to keep, I'm giving one away during the blog hop at the week-end! Happy to share my yarn love!

I think there's a push bike outside a shop that's been 'bombed' in the shopping center by the Olympic Park in Stratford. It caused quite a lot of attention as everyone was stopping to look at it. My hubby (total non crafty type... Enjoys construction and cars) was the one to point it out!
