Hello everyone, Dolly here.
Now admit it – we all like a little bit of adventure in our lives at times. So today I want to inspire you to be adventurous with those photos and be very daring and cut them up.
Yes – cut them up.
Now I STRONGLY recommend that you do this with photos that are copies or that you have digital versions of. I mean we are talking a little adventure here, not total destruction if it doesn’t work out!
It’s just that slicing them up can make for a very interesting page.
You need to have a photo that works when split. Landscapes or nature pictures are perfect. People can be ‘sliced’ so to speak, but you need to be very careful where the cuts are or it can end up looking a bit like a horror show.
I recommend having a plain piece of paper the same size as the photo (and big photos work really well for this) and cutting that first. That way you can work out the right number of evenly sized strips you want and use them as masks to see where the cuts fall on the photo to make sure there are no oddities.
Then simply use a coordinating piece of cardstock so that the gaps look right with the picture and reassemble it.
You can see how big landscape images work really well with this.
This was a different twist as I printed two photos, one black and white and one in colour and used the colour bit to make the centre of my subject really pop. I also mounted the central section on card and then overlayed it on pop dots as well so it really lifts off the page in every sense. You do need to be carefuil where you make the cuts with people or animals though.
And of course, you don't need to stop with just long thin rectangles. Squares work really well too.
And you can combine a cut image with a regular image too.
You may remember this that I shared on here a while ago - so it works on home decor items too.
And of course, I wouldn't be me if I didn't share them digitally too. These are both digital pages where the work has been cut out for you (forgive the pun) as they both use templates by Dawn Inskip with the precut photo masks for you to use.
So go on, grab a copy of a photo you love and get slicing!
I really like how the LO 'You add colour to our lives' has b&w and colour in the photos. Very effective. Tfs

I taught a l/o where i got everyone to cut their photos into 3 ...they were a little freaked out about it too :) I got them to sand the edges for a distressed look.
I love what you have done above. This technique adds interest especially to a photo that hasnt much going on but your photos are fantastic xx
