At this time of year I can often be found making little gifts for friends and family or teachers, and I came across 2 different sorts of felt flower tutorials which would be perfect so this is what I have made.
I used some brushed felt off cuts that I got from a craft fair though you could use any felt. For the first flower you cut a strip of fabric (mine was approximately 30cm long by 6cm wide). You need some fabric glue, though I did use PVA for the first one and that worked just as well. Start by putting a line of glue along one of the edges and then fold the fabric in half so the 2 sides stick together. Once this has dried, then cut snips into the fabric from the folded edge to the glued edge leaving about a 1cm piece uncut at the bottom - you can use scissors or pinking shears for a different look. Once this is done you then add a wiggle of contrasting wool and stick this in a wave pattern along the felt and then glue and role the whole thing. Also stitch through the piece afterwards just to make sure it holds, and you can add some buttons or beads to the centre. Then add a felt circle and broach pin to the back. These are really easy to make and for more detailed instructions and exmaples have a look here. I have seen this sort of flower on a smaller scale used on scrapbook pages and cards too, I think they would look lovely on presents made out of paper.
This is the slightly more complicated felt flower but just beautiful - you need fabric glue and pegs to hold the petals together whilst they are drying. I found that even though I followed the tutorial as per the instructions the number of petals I used each time varied a bit. So have a look here for the tutorial- remember though where she mentions using a saucepan to hold the petals together the pegs are a lot easier.
Hope that gives you a little inspiration.

Saucepan? Got to go and see this, lol.
Such sweet little flowers, thanks for a great gift idea, and the second version would make a poinsettia in reds and greens too.

These flowers are so tactile, highly strokeable. Saucepan ? Err, how ? Pegs sounds like the way to go!
