Hello Kerry here with a tree made from an old book.
I've been noticing these sort of trees all over blogland and wanted to try and have a go. I found a really easy tutorial from Readers Digest (click the link for the tutorial). Apparently these have been going for a very long time but I've not seen them before this year.
Not being a reader of their magazine I decided to have a go with an old book. I'm saying old but I only bought it last year for the grand sum of 99p from Amazon before anybody gasps at me recycling a very old valuable book.
I started by removing the covers and then made the first folds
After a few folds it looked like this
and then after 200+ pages it looked like this. I have no idea how many pages a Readers Digest magazine has so this might have been a little too many but it worked.
I stuck the first and last pages together and then got to work with my most festive mists.
Left it to dry and then decorated it with some tinsel on the top, some fringing from my ribbon box and some buttons.
I can see me making one of these for each season especially as my local library has a mountain of old books at dirt cheap prices which would be ideal.
Have a lovely Christmas everybody.
Wow, this is fabulous, a wonderful festive piece. I really have to make one.

I have been making these with the small free magazines that the supermarkets have but they are addictive! the Tesco book took me the whole of the Robbie Williams concert (dvd) to fold. The colours are beautiful....keeeep folding x

Part of me wants to gasp anyway just for doing anything like this to any book! My mother always told me that books are special and to be kind to them! But it's hard to argue when you've turned something so dull (aesthetically!) into something so beautiful!
