2011 in the garden has not got off to a good start for me. Hi it's Caz here with a little good life inspiration!!
Following a fall down my stairs just over two weeks ago, getting stuck into the veggie patch has come to a stand still. My poor coccyx is bruised and battered resulting in me being useless with a spade and fork.
However there is still alot of activity as we have become the proud owners of 4 delightful chooks!
If we go back to April 2009 and the humble beginnings of a garden shed....
Alot of planning and discussion was needed!
Can you see what it is yet?? ;)
And fast forward to April 2011...and the arrival of Henrietta, Matilda, Rose and Winnie.
I'm going to start with Chicken Chateau......
A purpose built chicken house. Complete with nesting boxes,
A teeny tiny door and ramp,
Suspended water and food,
Building a coop from scratch was a long process, well the photos proove it was a two year long process. It was far less expensive that buying a house and run, as dear husband did the building and was lucky enough to use work contacts to get a good price on the wood. Now the hard work of being a chicken keeper begins. There is lots to do and boy do they get through water, especially in the recent (3 days worth) of heat wave. Writing this post, they have been with us a week.
Sadly though the veggie patch is a dust bowl, being used for alot of this....
The guilt is massive! I have not sewn one seed yet, nor have I even thought about what to grow. No actually that's a lie, I will grow chard. It was my favourite veg of 2010 and one I will grow again.
Is there a balance between living the good life and still going out to earn a good wage? Is there time to do both? Well I guess only time will tell.
I'll be back next month to show you the shed side of the shed {?} and give you an update on how the chooks have settled in.
Ciao!

What a lovely residence, who needs veg when you have eggs! But seriously, what about salad crops in tubs and planters, little time and effort and it might make you feel better about not having the labour intensive things like beans.
