Hi everyone. Dolly here.
I am a black and white girl in so many senses. I wear a heck of a lot of it for work. It looks crisp and smart, and that translates to scrapping and card making too.
I love playing around with layouts that are black and white – and by that I mean the layout not the photo.
There are some great black and white kits for digital scrappers. The two used above are both by Dawn Inskip from her Scrapbookgraphics store.
I love stamping in white ink on black card and find the Brilliance and Papertrey Inks work best for this.
Somehow it just makes the colours of the photo pop.
The stark contrast lifts the picture and throws it out of the page, making it really be the focus of the whole page.It also works well with black and white photo and I think good for a wedding theme too. I used lots of transparencies and sheet flowers and stitching on this one.
And sometimes even when the photo is in colour it looks black and white (This is a colour photo ... honest!) I really like the flowers on this one - they were dingbats cut ont he craft robo but in black and white they really pop.
And if the black and white is too stark you can soften it a little by using shades of grey
You can also warm up the whites going to a cream or beige sort of tone to take away a little of the starkness whilst keeping the drama of the monochrome page.
It works on cards and mini books too, to create a crisp look.
Go on, have a go and let black and white add some extra zip to a special page.
Wow you are so productive! These are just wonderful, and the one of your parents in particular would be wonderful in fabrics on a canvas. I'm a full technicolour person usually but I can certainly see the appeal and the diversity of b/w.
