Hi from Caz!
I'm on a mission to use up some of my yarn scraps and wanted to make something a little more practical. I have two pots, that I don't use often, but they are stainless steel and the little handles get so jolly hot that I have to use a tea towel over the top to pick it up!
But the tea towel often falls forward into the path of bioling water (when draining chard) or hangs over the pot dangling awful close to the hot stove!
So I thought to use some wool cotton to make a couple of pot holders.
To help keep their shape and make them a little more rigid, i've backed them in some of my, very precious, Cath Kidston fabric.
I've finished one so far, but have another on the crochet hook. This time in blue.
All you need is a square, and you don't need to crochet it, it can be knitted.
Here is how I made mine:
Your size hook will depend on the yarn you use, and the so will the size so you may want to have a play first. You will need to chain an odd number for the pattern to work.
Make a slip knot and chain 21. Mark this stitch.
Chain two more. These count as a dc and one chain.
(You now need to dc into each of the odd number chains. And between each dc you need a chain.)
DC into chain 19, chain
DC into chain 17, chain
DC into chain 15, chain
etc etc.
DC into chain 1.
2 chain, this counts as the first dc and one chain from 2 two.
Turn. You now DC into the chain space from the previous row, with a chain between each DC.
Does that make sense?? If not just shout and i'll do a more step by step!
Continue until you have the required size.
Happy crochet!
Caz
