October Garden Time - Welcome to the Jungle

Oh deary me! Yes my garden or more to the point my veggie patch is a JUNGLE! A jungle of weeds actually.

Is this not the biggest mess you have ever seen?!?!

Life seems to have gotten in the way of keeping on top of the garden which is sad because I had been doing a good{ish} job till now.

The butternut squash which you can see on the bottom right hand corner of the top pic, is taking over. I didn't know they crept so far from their roots. But nestled under the leaves are lovely ripening squashes, which are one of our favourite veg :)

In the very bottom of the patch is a pile of rotting veg plants. These have done their thing and borne their veg, and now wait till they have broken down and I have a chance to dig it all in.

I'm down to one tee pee of beans as the wind blew the rest down and unfortunatly they broke :(

And alas the sweet peas, which are still flowering beautifully, are also looking a bit lop sided...

Oh my, the work never ends, lol. You can see that the grass is nearly long enough to tickle Joshie's tummy as he walks by.

By this time next month things will look very different out in the garden. But the one constant is the birds. Making sure the bird feeders are always full will keep them around and ensure there is some life in the garden over winter.
