I couldn't resist the title and how many of you are now humming the music from the Christmas Coca Cola ads? I am!
Dolly here with a Christmas project for you to get started on in readiness for advent. I know lots of people have bought the Tesco Advent houses and decorated them beautifully but I am sure there are people who have one as yet un-decorated or would like to make something similar. Here is an idea to get you in that advent mood.
The houses began life in bright colours that I didn't feel went with my home decor for the holiday season (I am a very traditional sort of girl!)
The first thing I did was take the drawers out and paint the whole thing a very neutral cream. It gave me a good base to work with and to add whatever I wanted to. It took several coats as the original colour was very bright. I didn't paint the sides of the drawers as they were quite a tight fit and I didn't want them to stick.
I used a digital kit called Joy to The World by Kristin Cronnin-Barrow at Sweet Shoppe designs for the project. I printed the papers out on quality card and also the quotation block and the angel. The angel needed to be printed twice, once in reverse, so that she could be viewed from both sides.
I adhered the patterned papers to the front of the drawers, sanding all the edges to ensure a good stick and a slightly shabby feel.
I added the numbers in black and the quote block I had made.
I covered the star and two chipboard swirls in patterned paper and added them to the roof and also decorated the roof and the chimney with some scraps of card cut into scallops.
The two angels were stuck together on a thick piece of card and she was added to the top.
The finished house went witht he colour scheme and, if I ever decide to change the colour scheme, would be really simple to re-alter again to match a new scheme.
Have fun with this project, and others coming up this month, in getting you and your homes ready for Christmas.
Dolly x
Really love this colour scheme, and the soft worn-ness of it. I have one of these houses, I must have a go at last, maybe I can conquer my shabby demons. (I have a theory that only people who are classy, smart, and organised in real life can master the shabby chic look, when you are already shabby and poor, it's too close to home!)
:)

This is really beautiful - the cream & red are perfect for a 'home-spun' style Christmas.
