Hi Lynne here
I love learning new craft techniques.
A cousin often talked about his grandmother being short of housekeeping money and making a few inches of Lace for groceries. Her work was beautiful and I decided I needed to learn how to make Lace.
There are many different types of Lace, each area of the UK originally had their own style.
I learnt Torchon Lace.
I started with a bookmark and then made an edging for a pincushion. (For Lace making the best pincushion is one stuffed with sheeps' wool which helps to keep the pins in good condition. All Lacemakers keep one on their Lace pillows)
While I was learning I really struggled with "spiders", I was determined to learn how to do them so chose a fan pattern that was based on "spiders".
Once the Lace was completed it was pleated and mounted on fan sticks.
Above is a close up, the "spiders" are at the top of the photo.
Thanks for looking.
Lynne x
Oh wow, how exquisite, and how much patience do you have?

Goodness me, this is absolutely beautiful, and you have much more patience than I do.

I used to do lace work as a young child after I was bought a lace making kit - thanks for the reminder as I've put it down on my christmas list of wants, another kit so I can get making it again. :)
