Hi, a very warm Joy here.
It has been 31'C (88'F) today and we have been preparing for the Town Carnival and The School's Gardening Competition judging. The Year 2 part of the garden was based on the book Handa's Surprise. I made a scarecrow to look like Handa.
The children did an amazing job decorating the walls, tidying the garden and planting up pots and boxes.
We put scenes from the book on the walls.
The giraffe making off with the pineapple.
The parrot swoops off with papaya.
The animals and fruit were not painted on there were made with tissue paper and Berol Marvin Medium - my favourite craft glue!
You cover the table with cling film. Then paint the cling film with the Marvin Medium. Tear up tissue paper in your chosen colours and layer onto the cling film with the Marvin Medium. Build up 3 - 4 layers finishing with a nice thick gluey layer. It dries clear leaving a beautiful glossy "fabric". When dry, peel off from cling film. Draw on your image and cut out. Apply to wall with more Marvin Medium. It is waterproof and lasts well on the wall. I used the leftovers to make a cover for the Garden Scrapbook, which we had to submit to the judges. I will let you know how we get on.
This is our mod-roc croc. The butterflies on the grille are made from the same "fabric" as the animals.
The Foundation class grew lots of vegetables and had great fun this week harvesting and creating a feast of vegetable loveliness to eat in class. They all agreed that it tasted lovely because they had grown it themselves.
As you read this I will be parading through our town dressed as a jester. I will be helping to lead 40 small children dressed up as a pack of cards. I hoped it has cooled down slightly.
Enjoy your weekend whatever you are doing!

What a wonderful post, I absolutely love children's art work.
Hope the weather cools down for you today. What a wonderful theme, and your scarecrow is brilliant.

Oh my word, what lucky children to have such an artistic teacher to inspire them, giving them a creative licence to carry with them all their lives I hope.
