Hi everyone :) I thought I would tell you about some altered coasters I did for a swap. I found these fabulous glass coasters in Poundland for... er, £1. One of those things I wished I had picked up more of at the time as I've never seen them in there since.
I started off by scratching off all the dodgy painted frames on the coasters. I just used a pair of tweezers and a wet-wipe to keep sweeping away the excess. It got everywhere - I looked like I had a severe case of dandruff at the end of it.
The theme of the swap was the 80's film The Labyrinth so I then decided to cover the coaster stand in some DCWV Once Upon A Time paper from my stack. I've been treasuring that stack for years, I'm starting to come to the end of it now. Eek! I covered the finished stand in several layers of Glossy Accents to make it a bit more hard wearing.
For the coasters themselves I chose a couple of images from the film from Google and resized them to fit on the coasters.
For one of the coasters I made an ATC using a Tim Holtz stamp because I thought the image portrayed the time theme that runs through the film really well. I picked out various bits on all the pictures in glitter glue - in the black & white one Sarahs hair accessories and jewellery and the bits on Jareth's coat are now all sparkly. I also added quotes from the film. The first coaster I used the castle which features on one of the DCWV papers - I thought this could be the Goblin Kings castle.
All the images were attached to the glass with Glossy Accents and it was just a case of keeping an eye on them as they dried and smoothing out any air bubbles when spotted.
The box the coasters came in I also covered in paper from the same stack and glitter glued around all the edges.
I was really pleased with the final result and was kicking myself when I couldn't find the coasters again... at least not at Poundland prices, like they say when you spot their bargains buy them quick because when they're gone, they're gone. I would love to get a hold of some more because I can think of so many different themes for these, I think they would make great presents. The search continues.
Thanks for stopping by and indulging me in my 80's Fantasy film love *g*
