A Granita is a type of textured sorbet,a water ice-or an adult slushy if you prefer.
they are easy and quick to make,with little effort you can create a stunning,light,refreshing dessert,this recipe is for a Chai latte ,a spiced indian tea that is readily available both in loose tea form and in tea bags.i used a Whittards loose chai mix,however if you can't find a ready made mix,here is the recipe for a chai latte.
Ingredients
- 2 pints of water
- 2 inches root ginger, unpeeled
- 1 whole star anise
- 1 3–4 inch cinnamonstick
- 1/2 vanilla pod, split
- 6 tablespoons honey or 8 oz sugar
- 2 tablespoons black tea or decaf tea
- 1/2 pint milk
- whipped cream(optional)
- cinnamon(optional)
Directions
- place water, ginger, star anise, cinnamon stick, and vanilla in to a large pot. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer; cook for 20 minutes. Add honey or sugar, tea and milk. Bring back to a boil then remove from heat. Allow to cool to room temperature, strain twice through a strainer .
- Refrigerate until chilled.
- In a 9 x 13 inch ttub (or a tub large enough to fit in your freezer ) freeze mixture.
- When almost frozen, scrape with a fork to break up chai mixture.
- Re-freeze for another 1 1/2 to 2 hours, scrape again with a fork and return to freezer.
- When frozen, serve or transfer to a plastic container for later.
- If using later, allow to melt slightly then scrape again with fork and serve. Garnish with whipped creamand ground cinnamon, if desired.
- you could also decorate with some dark grated chocolate.
