**WARNING** Very picture heavy post!
Hi from Caz!
Last September my DH and I had a week away to the West Country. It was a truly magical and very overdue holiday, we hadn't been away together, just the two of us for so long. Besides the fact that we had a great time together, we also discovered a place that I didn't want to leave....St Ives.
So in honour of this discovery, I wanted to document it but I didn't want to do a travel journal. I wanted to make an album.
Mmmmmmm but I am pretty HOPELESS at doing themed albums, probably because I bore easily, lol. I needed focus and to be prepared (and really doing projects for IACW gives me a bit of a kick up the butt as I knew I had to finish it!). So what do you need to make, and finish, an album in a day.....
- Choose your papers. I've used Chatterbox, they are all stored in one magazine file together so no rummaging.
- Choose your embellishments. I didn't want the album to be too bulky so only used a few brads, alpha stickers, rub ons and blossoms.
- Print your photos so you know how any pages you are going to do.
- Dig out your memorabelia. I had ticket stubs, receipts, post cards etc etc
- Choose an album, and make sure you have enough pages/sleeves. I've used a Go West Studios acrylic cover journal {LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!}
- Find any information you may need off the internet and print it all out. I found it useful to have the map book handy to remind myself of road and town names.
- Choose a good journalling pen :)
- Keep some sketches handy. I had my sketch book handy in case I needed a push ;)
Once you have your supplies handy you are ready to start. There is no rule about order of pages, just do them as the fancy takes you and sort the order at the end! If you are using a book like mine don't stick your pages in until you are sure that any embellishments won't hinder your journalling on another page.
The number one thing to remember is to ENJOY the process and relive the memories. Don't start the day thinking you won't finish or else you probably won't. Have fun!!
And here is my holiday album.....
I've gone over the rub ons on the front cover with mod podge so they won't wear off.
Some of my favourite photos printed small to make a collage for the title page.
To create the maps I printed the image off the internet then traced it onto the page. My water colour pencils had a little outing for the colouring in :)
I've used a few postcards as 'photos' too.
Lots of room for journalling
Pockets made out of patterned paper are a great place to store pamphlets, ticket stubs and receipts.
I've had this book a long time, waiting for the perfect project and this WAS it!
Being prepared for making an album in a day is key to ensuring you actually finish it. How many of us start and never complete a project because it gets a bit overwhelming? Hopefully not any more :)
haPPy dAy and thanks for visiting :)

Heehee, looks like West Country is the Best Country. As a departed (deported?) native, I just love this journal, maps and pockets and Uncle Tom Cobley and all.
