Will you ...... Scrap your man?

We're all back at It's a creative world after our *Spring break* and raring to go with another fund raising project.

You can keep your bosoms under wraps this time as we're concentrating on the men in our lives.  Be they your Husband, Son, Brother, Dad or a special friend we want you to scrap them and help us raise funds for Orchid a men's cancer charity.

We appreciate that times are hard for so many of us at the moment but even donating £1.00 would help to make a difference. 

But, this isn't just about raising money it's also about creating awareness of an issue that affects so many of the men in our lives.  If we can get your men to check themselves then we will be happy.

We have some super sponsors onboard and lots of fabulous prizes up for grabs ...... Remember, if you're not in it you really can't win it.

All that we ask is that you scrap the man in your life and submit your works of art to us at [email protected] for our gallery.

We will then enter you into our prize draws and you could win some FAB goodies.

This charity campaign is of significant interest to me. On 10 November 2003 I gave birth to our baby son. It should have been the happiest time of mine and my husband's lives, but it was all taken away when the day after he was born, my husband, Mike, was diagnosed with testicular cancer. What followed is all just a blur really. He was immediately admitted to hospital for an emergency operation to remove the cancerous testicle. I’d had an emergency C-Section so I was in one hospital, he was in the other. We couldn’t be there to support each other and it was awful. Thankfully, after a week’s stay in hospital, we were both allowed home together the same day, with our new baby son.

Mike was then off work for four months, having regular hospital stays for chemotherapy. I remember he was so glad to get back to work at the end of it all, he said he was just glad that things were getting back to normal and he was starting to feel normal again.

Fast forward to now, five years later. It’s been a long, difficult road, and we’ve had a few scares on the way, but Mike was finally given the all clear in January this year. It was the best news we could wish for. Unfortunately testicular cancer is on the increase, particularly among the age group of 16-25. Research is always ongoing and they are desperately trying to work out why this increase is happening, particularly in such young men. It is very important for men to check themselves regularly, just like women do for breast cancer, and if they notice any change to contact their GP as soon as possible. If found early enough, it is very successfully treated, with a 98% chance of full recovery. Thankfully, Mike was vigilant and that vigilance saved his life. The medical team that looked after him were absolutely fantastic. They gave me my beloved husband back, and I will never be able to thank them enough for that.
