LOL and hello from MadDi, the geriatric on IACW design team...
I wonder do we always remember what 'scrapbooking" was and IS all about?
"Scrapbooking is a method for preserving personal and family history in the form of photographs, printed media, and memorabilia contained in decorated albums, or scrapbooks. The idea of keeping printed materials of personal interest probably dates to shortly after the invention of printing. "
I want to share with you today some of the early scrapbooks that I kept, and I have to confess it is STILL my preferred style of scrapbooking. In 'those' days we did not know about ACID FREE, and we did not know about EMBELLISHMENTS, we just 'scrapped' using SCRAPS!!!
Every child I knew kept a book of scraps which we swapped. Then we started making our own scraps by cutting stuff out of magazines, pictures, words, quotations, and maybe photographs etc.
We stuck our stuff in a 'scrapbook'. Yes that's what they called them even in the old days.Every scrapbook had a theme. Here are some of mine:
So what do we do now. We shop for 'co-ordinating' paper, cardstock, ribbon, buttons, and the embellishments that will 'match' the page. Have we have lost something along the way - the joy of looking, cutting and pasting, and really having fun?
I think my favourite scrapbook is the one I made I of my trip to Vietnam in 1997- see how simple the pages are:
There is perfection in the imperfection....
This post is dedicated to our lovely Charlotte who reminded me that there is still space for old fashioned scrapping!
