January 2013

Last week I finished joshies blanket, It's only little but he fits on it nicely. I tried the granny stripe pattern from attic24 blog and as always it's very easy to follow. I still have some of the calmer yarn left, 2 balls each of the light blue and green and a little of the dark blue.

Very excited that I have two things ticked off my finishing school list. I'm working on my pink Debbie bliss top now and am making good progress. I would like to be able to wear it from the spring which I'm hoping will come in march!
I must confess to buying a little yarn on Saturday. Yikes, I know I shouldn't. But in my defence they are for quick projects, a hat for stu made with rowan cocoon on 6mm needles, and a baby bear hat which is tini tiny and should be done in a couple of nights.
I may need to do another project list!

The snow is all gone, replaced by very soggy ground. Wonder if we will get another cold snap this winter?

Now I must get back to work, blogging from my desk using works wifi as our broadband is on the fritz again. Engineer coming out on Saturday.

Sorry for the delay in posting snow pics but we lost our broadband for a few days. Really annoyed about that as we have only just had it installed.

Anyway, here they are, our snowy garden :) I really do love snow and wish it was big snow every year so that the infrastructure would improve and the country doesn't come to a standstill.

It's just starting to melt now, I wonder if there will be any more??

19 Jan 2013

Tuesday was my birthday. I turned 38, and boy do I have issues with 38. Two years to 40, nothing of any substance achieved in my life, no qualifications, no job that I actually want to get up in the morning for, no children, no property (that I own). Am I happy? Well yes I am. I have a nice home (rented at a very good rate), a lovely husband who adores me, a crap job that pays the bills, inspiration to get qualified. I spend my money on having my nails done and buying lush yarn to make beautiful things. Am I happy? Yes. Am I fulfilled? No.
The problem with me is that I stick my head in the sand and hope it all works out. I get that from my mother, thanks mum! Will I take action and actually do something to resolve my fulfilment issue? Mmmmm I doubt it. Pathetic huh?
So my issue with turning 38 will stay with me and my head stuck in the sand until July when I celebrate my birthday and have to admit I'm 38.

Oh well lets take a look in my crochet basket. I am using left over rowan calmer yarn from Callum's blanket to make a little blanket for joshie boy. His blanket is an acrylic purple thing that I just don't like anymore.
While talking about baskets, I must admit to having an addiction to buying baskets! It is really out of control now. I may go through the house and count them, maybe ;)

Ooh and we have snow! Loads of it. Will share photos tomorrow.

RIP Henrietta :( my beautiful bovans nera chook went to Jesus on Monday. I had no idea that I would be so sad at the passing of one of my girls but they have such sweet little personalities and are so individual that she was special to me, as they all are. I was worried that she was ill and could have passed it on but the other girls are fine.

My photo today is a rowan big wool jumper that I knit at the end of last year. It took two weeks! Big wool and big needles means quick knits. I am keen to make another just need to decide on a colour :)

It's been a snowy few days with more forecast for the weekend, no photos yet but I will get!

Yay I love snow! Caz xx

Another project I completed over Christmas was Callum's blanket. It's an easy ripple thanks to attic24, this pattern is so awesome you really don't need to think much while doing it :)

This is the yarn that I have a bit left over and I'm going to make a little blanket for the cat. He does have one (of course he has!) but the colours are poop so he needs a new one.

Weather is turning cold again, wonder if we'll get snow!

Woo hoo, I can tick off a yarny project. Tonight I finished my goddaughter, Zara's, Christmas jumper. Better late than never, lol. It's made with rowan Lima yarn which is just so soft and cosy.
I had a little issue with the sizing as they had 3-4 and 5-6, she is 3 and a half. So in the end I settled on 5-6. There was an inch difference in finished size and I figure she will get more wear out of the bigger size.

Her mom did hint that her first Christmas blanket is looking a big worn from use (which is good!!) so I think a new one will be part of next Christmases gift. I wonder if I should felt her first blanket and make some slippers for her from it? And/or a felt toy of some sort. Mmmmm worth thinking about.

Tomorrow I start on a little blanket for josh!

Happy days!

On my desk today is my Christmas journal. Each day I have written in the small red journal and am slowly doing a corresponding page in an album. The page won't have loads of journaling so the book will be kept in the album for both to be read at the same time. It's been a great project to get me back into paper craft.

4 Jan 2013

Even though its been a short work week (I only did wed-fri) it feels like it has dragged so a very warm welcome to Friday!!

My time at John Lewis came to an end in June last year and it broke my heart to say goodbye to the new AP ADMIN team that I had worked to help stabilise in Bracknell. It felt strange to hand my job to someone and at times it was hard but the girls are so lovely that it was somehow more important to me to make sure I did my very best job to ensure I gave all my knowledge to them. I miss them still :(

But I had to move on and unfortunately I have not moved on to a better place. I had my annual (although I have only been there little over 4 months) review on wednesday and it went well. It was an opportunity for me to voice concerns and I did, in a constructive and positive way!
I was told that I was a good personality for the office (hopefully that means no one complained about me!).
So although I am looking for another job, I hope that if/when I leave I will have left something positive behind.

Photo today is a very winding coastal road from our Scottish Christmas adventure.

Off to the pub tonight with friends :)

3 Jan 2013

Having not done any paper craft for well over a year my creating space turned into a dumping space. I hated going into the room and often just tossed something in without turning on a light or even looking! Disgusting huh?

Well one day inspiration hit and I made a plan to get in there and have a clean up. I chose a weekend and set my mind to it. Stuart, because he didn't believe I would (!), marked it on the calendar! How rude ;)

Anyway tidy I did! And boy did it feel good to sit at my desk again. My main reason to tidy was wanting to do the journal your Christmas class through shimelle.com. I had bought her Christmas in a box kit (although I am sure I never really intended to use it!), and boy did it contain some yummy stash.

It was the boost I needed to get back on the paper craft trail :)

A before and after shot to prove how bad (and then good!) it was.

2 Jan 2013

So lets talk yarn craft! I have loads of yarn all ready to be worked, ready in baskets with a pattern book and needles/hook. I have way too many baskets, it's a passion um obsession!!

Okay here goes:-
Red poncho
Sea green vest summer top
Pink Debbie bliss top
White all seasons cotton 'jacket'
All seasons cotton bath mat
Sofa blanket
Big wool caplet (x2)
Zara jumper
Josh blanket
Rowan kid silk pashmina

Yikes! Lots to do before the spring :)

The photo on today's post is a view we found in Scotland over Christmas. The scenery we drove through on this particular day was just awesome.
